International Faculty Travel Grants
The Office of International Programs awards small grants to assist faculty with international travel. Priority restrictions apply.
Faculty Exchanges
Faculty are encouraged to work with the OIP staff in exploring and applying for a wide range of international exchange opportunities. These include the Fulbright Exchange Program, reciprocal department exchanges, and exchanges based on agreements between UNC Charlotte and foreign institutions of higher learning.
Global Learning & Internationalization
In an effort to support and align with the University’s Strategic Plan 2021-2031 Shaping What’s Next and UNC Charlotte's pathway toward a top-tier research university status, OIP is offering this initiative focused on campus global learning and internationalization efforts to support faculty development and engagement.
Kingston Resident Director Application
The Office of International Programs periodically invites tenured faculty to apply for the Resident Faculty Director position at Kingston University London in Kingston upon Thames, a Royal Borough of London.

This resource information identifies various ways in which the Office of International Programs can offer support to colleges, departments and individual faculty members in their efforts to recruit more diverse international graduate students.
Fulbright Scholar Program
The Fulbright Scholar Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. The Program offers U.S. faculty, admins and professionals grants to lecture, conduct research, or to participate in seminars.
Global Engagement Resources
The Office of Global Education and Engagement provides resources for university faculty members, informing them about international resources, programs, and funding opportunities for faculty and students.
Country-Culture Workshops
Programs will include exploration of a specific country, such as the language, etiquette, cultural norms, political history, and other key nuances unique to the selected country. Each year, a new country will be selected to showcase the rich nuances of the country and culture. All faculty, staff, and administrators are invited to participate in the workshops.
Cultural Ambassador Program
The Cultural Ambassadors program provides faculty with the opportunity to have a panel of international students visit their classroom and engage with their students in a planned question and answer session and discussion moderated by a member of the International Student and Scholar Office staff.
Phi Beta Delta Honor Society
Phi Beta Delta has as its purpose the recognition of experience in the areas of international education exchange and/or international scholarship. It also serves as a means for encouraging interdisciplinary interchange and serves as a catalyst for developing a network among faculty, students, and staff involved.
International Travel Insurance for Faculty
UNC Charlotte faculty who are planning to travel internationally are advised to purchase international travel insurance through the Office of Education Abroad. Faculty are also advised to register with the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) prior to their trip and to read the general international travel information at the U.S. Department of State’s travel website.
Globally-Networked Learning
Globally-Networked Learning was coined by Professor Jon Rubin as a “teaching and learning methodology which provides innovative and cost-effective internationalization strategies. Such programs foster faculty and student interaction with peers abroad through co-taught multicultural online and blended learning environments emphasizing experiential student collaboration.” (SUNY COIL Center, 2020).
DailyChatter Newsletter
DailyChatter is an international daily newsletter that curates some of the most interesting and important global developments and prepares a conversational, easy-to-read report designed to be read on your smartphone or any other digital device. It is independent and non-partisan and your subscription is entirely free for as long as you are employed at UNC Charlotte. Feel free to invite your students to enroll as well.
International Country Flags
The Office of International Programs offers country flags from any of the 193 members of the United Nations at internationally-relevant campus events. OIP can also provide an “all world” country flag that showcases the UN country flags in one large flag. A free loan system is in place through OIP for UNC Charlotte community members to borrow the flags with or without their weighted bases and flagpoles.
International Faculty Services
The International Student and Scholar Office provides immigration/visa assistance, and a range of advice and resources to assist international scholars at UNC Charlotte. ISSO can answer questions ranging from how various actions affect visa status to what University and community services you are likely to find useful.
International Instructor Language Support
The International Instructor Language Support Program provides language assistance to non-U.S. graduate students who are part of the International Teaching Assistant program. Secondly, IILSP conducts faculty language assessment and consulting for academic departments who are evaluating applications for faculty positions from candidates whose native language is not English.
