GLII Community of Practice Events

GLII Community of Practice is an informal gathering of GLII faculty members to facilitate and promote internationalization of campus and curriculum.  The community of practice gathering provides an open space for faculty members to exchange ideas, network, support each other and learn about the various global learning opportunities provided by the Office of International Programs at UNC Charlotte.

Fall 2025 GLII Community of Practice
October 28, 2025

On October 28, 2025, GLII faculty gathered for the second Fall 2025 Community of Practice. Othelia Lee from the School of Social Work presented on “Collaborative Online International Learning in Social Work Education: A Glocal Approach” (to request slides, please contact Yongling Gorke at: ygorke@charlotte.edu). Participants discussed approaches and benefits of virtual exchanges, and Yongling Gorke shared valuable lessons learned from the 2025 International Virtual Exchange Conference.

September 17, 2025

On September 17, 2025, GLII faculty gathered for the first Fall 2025 Community of Practice and discussed the ways to integrate meaningful assignment to campus events such as the International Festival. April 23, 2025

On April 23, 2025, James Montegrico from the School of Nursing, shared his experience related to several international research collaborative projects. February 11, 2025

On February 11, 2025, Jessamyn Moxie from the Department of Public Health Sciences, presented on “Ableism in Study Abroad”. Together with staff members from Office of Education Abroad, the participants discussed challenges and valuable lessons in accommodating students’ special needs in study abroad programs.

Fall 2024 GLII Community of Practice
October 10, 2024

On October 10, 2024, a faculty panel  shared their experiences and valuable lessons from education abroad programs conducted in the summer. These faculty and their respective programs included: Security and Intelligence in Western Europe (led by Josh Miller, Political Science and Public Administration),Tanzania: Sustainable Housing and Protective Building Materials (co-led and presented by Liz McCormick, Ravin School of Architecture), and Bosnia and Herzegovina: Cultural Heritage Workshop in Mostar (led by Emily Makas, Ravin School of Architecture). They discussed collaboration with the Office of Education Abroad for smooth program implementation, students’ progress and reflection on academic and intercultural learning, as well as suggestions to improve programs for future participants.
