College Internationalization

A key strategic goal of the Office of International Programs (OIP) is to support the colleges in their internationalization efforts. OIP works with the colleges through collaborative programs and through targeted resource sharing to identify and implement key strategies and initiatives to address their internationalization goals. Below, we have provided highlights of some of the impressive programs and efforts UNC Charlotte’s colleges have developed, which have advanced the university’s mission of expanding our global reach, developing global citizens, and internationalizing our campus.

The CoA+A is committed to international education as a method to expose students to the rich and varied cultures they will study in their courses, prepare themselves for careers in global practices, and develop the “languages” of seeing, hearing, touching and engaging so unique to the arts and architecture.

The College has developed many opportunities for study around the world, sponsored both by faculty initiative and through the Office of International Programs/Education Abroad.

College of Education

Internationalization Committee

The standing committee is charged with providing leadership in meeting the goal that College of Education students and faculty will demonstrate knowledge of the interconnectedness of the world through systematic experience and study. The scope of work includes the advancing the recommendations of the ad hoc committee on internationalization, establishing relationships with the Office of International Programs and the Department of Languages and Culture Studies, seeking resources for international initiatives, and serving as the selection committee for the College of Education International Studies Student Scholarships. The Chair of the Committee is elected by the faculty; committee members are elected by the departments for staggered two-year terms.

College of Health and Human Services

Internationalization Committee

The standing Internationalization Committee was established in 2010 to provide leadership in promoting internationalization of faculty and students at the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). Our goals include promoting current and planned international activities and programs for CHHS faculty and students.

College of Liberal Arts & Sciences

Internationalization

Global Scholarship. At UNC Charlotte, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences studies a wide variety of historic and contemporary global questions. From the study of languages and culture, to conflict and peace, to research on juvenile crime to scholarship investigating the environmental impact of urban development on watersheds, faculty in the College take their expertise around the world—and bring the world home to Charlotte. The College is also home to several research centers that host visiting international scholars, sponsor conferences and lectures, and promote the study of international issues.

Study Abroad. Nothing enriches students’ appreciation of the 21st century’s global culture more than taking their studies abroad. Semester- and year-long exchange programs allow students to study at host institutions around the world, while paying UNC Charlotte tuition. In addition to these longer programs, the College also hosts spring break and summer study abroad programs, in which students take one or two courses in an international setting.

Global Curriculum. Many courses taught in the College focus on international phenomena, while still others include global components as a portion of the course. The College also offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs that have global study as their principal focus. Certificate programs provide yet another avenue for students to study international questions through a formal curriculum.
